the one on the left (with the ribs) is for 99+ 951's with a tps. the cover on the right is for non tps 951's.

i believe the oil pump cable is different. the older pumps have the oil cable bracket on the pump, the newer ones have the bracket molded into the cover. although i am not sure, but doesn't the other end of the oil cable go into the tps unit???

The TPS in the throttle cable has nothing to do with the front cover.

I think the best answer would be... The one without the extra bracing would be a 98 & the other would be 99 & up.

well i'll let you answer next time.

maybe you and your infinite wisdom can enlighten us as to the differences. there must be a reason why they are different. according to the microfiche, the oil injection cable goes into a throttle linkage assembly. since i don't own a 99 and up engine, i really don't know for sure how they work.

My guess would be for more strength, thats usually why there are ribs in areas like that & the front cover is also the front motor mount.

Yes the 99 & up use the cable boss on the cover,if you were to put a 99 cover on a 98 the cable would still work & hook up to the oil pump.

The "TPS" is simply a switch on a throttle cable.

the 99 and up has the cable boss on the cover.
the 98 and older have a bracket on the oil pump to hold the cable.
the one with the boss is structurally stronger due to the ribs.....but really doesn't matter.

There is also a slightly different throttle cable assembly where the carbs cable meets also, but will still work.

i don't know what the tps looks like or how it functions, nor did i know you could use the 98 oil cable with a 99+ oil pump and mag cover. i asked many of these questions before i converted my 98xpl back to oil injection and never got a clear answer on this. all i did know is that there were 2 different oil pumps and 2 different mag covers and you couldn't mix and match them (for obvious reasons of the cable bracket).

as for the ribs on the cover, yes they they are there to strengthen the cover. seadoo must have had issues with the cover breaking to put all the support ribs into the cover. adding ribs or gussets are standard items to strengthen parts when designing
