How freely should a impeller/pump spin?

I removed my pump last night and I notice it turns fine but you can't spin it and let it keep spinning. Is that normal? I had a shop install my 14/20 and 2005 pump combo so this is the first time into the pump.

Holding the driveshaft vertically the pump housing should free spin 3 to 4 times around.

Check wear ring with it installed on the pump and place feeler gauges between the prop and liner.

I noticed that the rubber on the washer behind the prop makes alot of friction. with it mine will spin once,, without it 5-6 times. Is it ok to ditch that rubber on the washer?

If that washer is dragging most likely the driveshaft isn't installed far enough or your seals aren't pushed in all the way.

i did mine someone had 2 washers ( i think they call them bumpers?) and they both spit all the rubber . it is important to get the grease seals seated all the way or you pick up friction from that washer hitting the seals . as far as ditching that washer I think it stops the impeller from threading to far down the shaft and helps provide tension

chris what lube you running in the hub...

if grease it will hold some resistance till it warms up,
jump was on grease and 05 was on oil, when i span them together early part of year there way a lot less motion in the grease from cold, maybe as much as 1 1/2 turns

I believe the intension of the washer is to sheild the seals from debris and excessive water pressure over time. For example, if fishing line were to get caught up around the shaft between the prop and pump it would destroy the seals. JMO

When i just checked the pump how he said to (hold drive shaft up, spin the pump it self) it spun like 4, 5, 6 times before it stopped. Now if I hold the pump and try to spin the impeller the impeller doesn't spin at all after i stop spinning it. I believe I have whatever the OEM stuff is. I didn't install it myself so I don't have a clue. Just about to pitch up to a 14/24 and wanted to make sure everything is looking like a go before I do it.
