Stage 3 / Rude Holeshot issues
Hello everyone This is pretty much my first post. I usually just consume info on here and learn. I am having a problem that hopefully maybe someone could help me with. I have a RXP Stage 3 with a Rude. On flat water I am making @14lbs of boost at Gps'd at 82.3 mph. @ 8500 The problem is my holeshot. I have an X-model as well and when we race I have to play catch up. When I hit it outta the hole I hit the limiter immediately and it breaks up and obviously am loosing power. I am using a 15/20R 4 blade, (reason for the 4 Blade is that I was looking for more top end.) along with a 80mm nozzle ring. I been going through different impeller/ring combos and Jerry has had it with me and my text messages . If anyone has a some suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

new wear ring if not metal and I would get a 15/22 prop
if your 15/20 is stock you are spining the prop out of the hole

I have had Jerry pitch a few, not even sure anymore what I have tried already. I do have a metal wear ring as well. I will try the 15/22, 80mm ring ok? Thanks

I have a similar setup but do not have the holeshot issues. You may ask Jerry before you purchase the 15/22 impeller, your current pitch is more than likely close to those specs now for the setup you have.
I also run the 80mm ring for best speed, for some reason when I install the 79mm it kills my speed.

what prop are you using? 15/20? any pitch? Thanks

Yes, I am using the 15/20 +. I plan on measuring it and my new 15/22 the next time I have the pump out. I think that they will measure about the same.

Wouldnt your holeshot be improved with a larger nozzle ? I.E. an 82 then bring RPM's back down ?

Hey there... I have the same problem... I went as far as replacing my pump shoe, rebuilding my pump, making it a triple bearing, replace my carbon ring, replace my ss floating seal, replace the billow, throwing a 15/22 on it, and re-sealing my ride plate. In the end the RUDE is just that powerful. I went as far as to video my RPM gauge for Jerry. I did like 5 diffrent starts and no matter what I will be on the limiter 3 times before my pump finally stops cavitating.
From what I am told by Jerry and Nils is that from an idle the RUDE just makes so much power that the pump cannot be loaded enough to not let the RUDE spin the prop. If you not at a dead idle you will notice the thing does not cavitate... just get moving about 10-15 mph you will notice it will just pull really hard... thats becasue its already getting water through the pump and is loaded.
Believe me... it bothered me so bad for so long... I spent well over $1500 bucks trying to resolve the issue but I guess there is no way to fix it. My mods are in my sig so you can see what I am running. Its basically a Stage 3 + a Rude.
Hope this info helps ya and maybe others will chime in with a way to resolve the issue, but I dont think its fixable. Jerry himself told me he had the same problem when he ran the RUDE... 1 way to fix it is to go Turbo

Try feathering the throttle. Also put the 83mm nozzle in if you want holeshot that 81 is killing you. If you are all over the limiter with the 83 then get a 15/22 or repitch your 15/20. Also keep in mind that the 3 blade props are much better for holesot/hookup.
