    Need Computer HELP!!!!!

Something is seriously wrong with my laptop. I think it has a really bad virus or something. I can't even get Windows to work anymore. I keep getting a message on a black screen that says "We're sorry for the inconvience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this." However I haven't changed a thing! Is there anything I can try doing before I have to call up a computer repair shop? Also who should I contact? I was thinking Geek Squad at Best Buy but they seem pricy. Close to $300 or something?!

***Edit: It's a Dell Inspiron E1505 with Windows XP if that helps anything.

First thing to try is to see if it starts in Safe Mode. If you press F8 as Windows starts booting, you'll get a screen with boot options. The timing can be a bit tricky; press F8 a few times as it goes from the self-test to the windows boot. See if you can get to the desktop if you choose safe mode.

Dunno about Geek Squad, though. I used to do a lot of PC repair, and I can't count the number of PCs I dealt with where the customer had gone to someplace like Geek Squad first, then got fed up and came to us.

Expect to pay at least $50/hr if you take it somewhere.

It doesn't start in safe mode either. Takes me back to the same black screen and says sorry for the inconvience, yada yada yada...

    Now what?

If you can get one you may be able to use it to repair your Windows installation without having to format and start all over. Other then that you also may be able to install over your current copy so you get windows to boot then save all you important files before formating and starting over.

I just had the same problem on my laptop a few months ago. THe hard drive took a crap and had to be replaced. $150.00 for a new, larger one. Was able to save 99% of my data that was there. I was lucky. My laptop is a Gateway and they usually only last a couple of years as they have very cheap componets.
    I feel your pain brother.
