Anyone use straps to lift their ski rather then the usual davit slings?

I use a davit to lift my 250x out of the water and onto the trailer, but the way the sides flare up creates a contact point for the metal to hit the painted surfaces making it difficult to push the sling forward enough to get a good balance. It works, but takes a lot of care to not damage anything. I was thinking a spreader bar with straps like marinas use to lift boats would maybe be a better way of doing it. Does anyone use lifting straps around the hull instead or is the metal sling that lifts from the sides about the only way to do it?

We used out door carpet to cover the metal of out sling. That way if it makes contact then it has carpet that shouldnt scratch.
