    2001 GTI 717 accelerator pump and carb question.

    We are in the process of installing a SBT engine in a 2001 GTI. The engine we removed had cooked pistons.

    I just read several posts regarding glow plugging. I would like to disable the accelerator pump. Do I need to re-jet or can I simply adjust the low speed screw? BTW, this is a 717 not a 951. Most discussions I have read on this issue pertain to the 951.

    Look up the jetting for a 97 GTI,it came without the accel pump.

    Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

    97 GTI 717 single carb specs:
    Main Jet: 175
    Pilot Jet: 70
    Spring: 80g
    Low Speed Screw: 1 3/4 turns

    2001 GTI 717 single carb with accelerator pump specs:

    Main jet: 167.5
    Pilot Jet: 75
    Spring: 130g
    Low Speed Screw: 1 turn

    So looks like I can get two jets and a spring and get rid of the accelerator pump for good.

    Don't forget high speed screw on the 97 is out like a turn and a half as well. You will have a dead spot in the power. I have a 97 GTI and I bought a newer 98 and up carb with the accel pump to get rid of the weak spot. It's right where you are trying to take off.

    The jetting doesn't look right. Pilot should be larger on the 97 ski. Keep the 75 pilot and you should be ok. If it lean-revs then go to a 80 pilot.
