    The Dimple

Brand spankin' new, never used, R&D 800 intake grate. Right out of the cardboard and plastic. What am I supposed to do with this? Use it, send it back to R&D, toss it in the garbage? Note the dimple.

the infamous dimple grate. all the new ones are like that. Quality control at it's best.

Personally if I was running an 800 grate, I would send it back and get one of Jerry's stainless grates

I've got a stainless coming. Now what do I do with this one? Will R&D take them back? (I won this in the Christmas/New Year give-away, didn't purchase, and you couldn't see the dimple under the oem packaging). I hesitate to put it in this year's give-away if it's an accident waiting to happen. Do we have a concensus on "dimple" failures vs. non-dimple failures?

I have seen quite a few dimple grates fail, and some without dimples too...

R&D and a few other suppliers only have this latest nightmare in stock, so I doubt you will get anywhere with them... oh and if you call them and ask about the dimple, they will act like they don't know what you are talking about.

I have one that has a dimple and it has somehow stayed together, but that dimple is right where they usually crack (conveniently). IMO its not worth the gamble Steve, especially at 79+.

Steve send that piece of **** back or can it!!! I broke one R&D 800 grate cracked another and also cracked a 1200 grate three days in a row the week of Mudbug. Not one of them had the dimple..It is not worth it. My ski has not been in the water since the radar runs.

Thanks guys. It's either going back to R&D or the trash. It wouldn't be right to sell it and I won't risk my neck, especially with the stainless version coming my way soon.

It actually looks like R&D filed or sanded over the dimple area for some reason. Oh well.

R&D grates can and have broken at speed on GPRs. This can throw the rider causing injury.
