white gunk in fuel filter, help what is it.

White gunk has clogged my fuel filter choking the fuel. Seadoo with 587 engine. The white gunk filled half of the filter.
Removed fuel filter, no water in it, it does not look like salt, it is a paste very smooth to the touch, dries to a white chaulk like consistency. Cleaned fuel filter again and started it up for a minute. Engine running rough. Check fuel filter again and the white started appearing again, against the filter screen.
The tank is a 15 gallon white opaque material, polypoleane, i believe.
I have run about 70 gallons through since a put in the tank with new baffle, new lines, it has also been about 70 gallons since i checked the fuel filter.
I removed some gas from the tank and the muck is definitely in there. This is a 15 gallon tank in a 90 gt, I do not want to even think about removing the tank. looking for any ideas of what is going on. I also checked my 5 gallon tanks that i premix the gas in before i put into the main tank, everything is clean in those tanks. The gas has not been sitting for anything more than one month. I have been pretty active going out every other weekend. I am concerned that there is some chemical reaction going on in the tank, or my tank is disintegrating.
By the way the tank when i put it in, about a year ago was used but in beautiful shape. Anything, any ideas would be appreciated.

Wow. Take out the baffle and see what is going on with the screen at the bottom of it. Also a good time to look inside the take and see if there is something sitting inside that is deteriorating - shop rag, random plastic, chunk of Tempo fuel hose (doh).

IT takes about 10 min to pull that tank. Pull the tank. Drain it with a syphon and undo the straps lift the oil tank up on the bump that holds it back remove the filter and fill hose lift the tank and slide it foward the oil tank will hang on the hose pull the oil tank lid first so you wont break the dipstick.
Euro Scott is right it might be Ethonol causeing breakdown

it's the crap fuel in the usa. Adding ethanol...

Check the internal bores of your grey tempo fuel lines and you will find that the ethanol has broken it down..

Don't forget the fuel recylcles itself around the complete system.

    water in tank

I evacuated the gas tank, there was a large amount of water in the gas, the white gunk must have been salt. I have done a lot of ocean hard running.

There was definitely no water in the fuel filter and i took it to two people in the know and they did not think it was salt also.

I am letting the tank evaporate anything else that is in there.
How did so much water, about a quart, get into the tank?
    Any ideas guys?

I am checking the gasket on the fill cap.
Checking on the two one way valves.

I am installing a water separator after the tank and before the fuel pump.
    Any problems in doing this?

Replace the check valve and pressure valve in the tank vent line and dont get them mixed up. My GSX used to do that all the time it was the vent sucking in water. Get rid of the last of the gray fuel lines on the vent tooo or it will gum the check valves also
