Spider cracks in hull!! what to do?
Hey guys, need help/ advice. I looked under at the hull today and noticed some spider cracks in the gel coat about 1-2 feet long on the right side. I would like to fix this asap befor it can even think about delaminating!!! I also have a minor chip in the gel coat as well. Its mabey an 1/8th to 1/16 in deep would like to fix that also. Please advise, do I just need to get one of those gel coat repair kits for the cracks or something else? Thanks, Nick

I really don't think fixing those spider cracks is going to last.
These hulls are already delaminated from the factory. Er, I suppose something first has to be laminated before it can delaminate. We should start calling it "lack of lamination" rather than "delamination", but I digress.
There's a layer of fiber cloth right in the middle of the thickness of the hull that has little or no resin. That's the root cause of all this. Unless you fix that problem, the cracks will continue to appear around the area.
I've considered trying to drill holes half-way through the hull and inject resin in there, but something tells me that just wouldn't work all that well.

I have got a TON of stess cracks on my hull pretty much everywhere..... Its kinda sad but honestly I'm not going to let them get to me and if the lamination fails in the future I'll certainly be upset but right now theres nothing I can do about it.
I've seen some pretty expensive speed boats with stress cracks... unfortunately its a common problem.
