    Prop pitch question

I have a stock 2004 GTX LTD (the 215 hp engine). The service manual says the stock prop is 13/23. The Riva stage 1 mod has the 12/20 as a replacement for the stock prop, or the 13/20R as a better alternative. It seems to me that going from a 23 pitch to a 20 will allow the engine to rev higher, but won't there also be a drop in top speed? It seems to be quite a drop in pitch.

I am considering replacing it, but want to choose a good replacement. If I do a simple prop replacement (no other performance mods), should I even consider one of these or stick with the stock prop?

Stormin, just to clear up any confusion or misunderstanding, is your Limited an '05 with 215 hp, or an '04 with 185 hp. The after market props you are describing are normally associated with the 185 hp model.

Did someone install that engine?... 2004 Limiteds were 185 hp from the factory.

and 12-20, 13-20 type props are splined for the 185 hp engines
The 215 hp engines are splined for 13-18, 14-19, 15-20 etc Solas props.

Yup, my mistake. I have been looking at newer models and 215 was stuck in my head. My 2004 is only 185 hp.

If you are totally stock and there is nothing wrong with the stock prop, then just stick with it. IF you need to replaced your prop, I would upgrade to a Solas 12-20...Have Dave at Impros pitch it just a little to
get your rpms at about 7500-7600. The 12-20 is just a tad too "big" for a bone stock 185 hp GTX. It will yield only about 7200-7400 rpms out of the box. Make sure to replace your wear ring when you have prop out.

Thanks. I see that all props are not equal and the pitch dimensions mean different things depending on the manufacturer.
