Thumbs up Oil Sending Unit Question

When I was changing out the oil tank due to a split in it on my 2002 GTI LS I noticed the cap on the cylinder at the bottom of the sensor is loose and not affixed to the cylinder. I might have done this when I was pulling out the sensor. Is this a problem? Will it continue to work like this or do I need to pull it all the way out, clean it and glue or epoxy it back together. It seems with the holes that are in the cylinder it would still function properly with a loose lid. Thanks

Well I threw it all back together and started the ski with just the oil that was in the lines and the low indicator light came on. Then I filled the oil tank and started again. This time no light, so I guess the loose top on the sending unit does not matter.
