Want free speed?
Take the nose cone off of your prop
Thats right! Thats not a typo! Remove it
This tip was shared by Kerry Hibdon (Mr. 88.5 mph)
I tried it this past weekend and gained .7 mph. It was not a back to back test, but i ran .7 faster than i ever have so the gain is there.
Before i posted this info i wanted to be sure the results were consistant so i had Sandrock back to back test the removal of the nose cone on his ski. He just called me and he gained .4 mph.
I also noticed slightly better acceleration.
Why does this work? I have no idea, but can only theorize that its much like a bullet in flight. The bullet pushes a mushroom shaped cone of air as it flys thru the air. Maybe the water is hitting the front of the impeller and the water is projected to the outer part of the impeller blades making it more efficient.

Oh, i also want to mention that with the impeller nose cone removed its a bitch to get the pump stabbed on the shaft. You can't just reach around and hold it anymore.
What i did was use a small piece of twine looped around the shaft and held the shaft up slightly until i got the shaft started into the impeller. Then i pulled the twine out and shoved the pump the rest of the way in the shoe.
There is no loss of RPMs from doing this and also no cavitation out of the hole. The only side effect of removing the nose cone is an increase in speed
Im really looking forward to some of you guys trying this out and sharing your results with us.

any cavitation when removing the nose cone? i would image it would

This isn't like a late April Fools joke is it? No loss in accel/gain in cavitation?

so if nothing bad is coming from removing the cone, what is the cone there for?

Not a joke at all. I was extremely reluctant to try it too, but now im glad i did. THANK YOU KERRY HIBDON for sharing this with us
Increase in speed
Probably better acceleration (Hibdon says you gain too)
Why does this work? Does my "bullet in flight" theory have anything to do with it?
