Snappped Riva grate on RXTX
Stripped the front bolt hole right out and broke right off leaving a piece attached on the back 3 bolts... That was a fun ride!!! OUCH!!!
Any ideas for rethreading the front hole without going completly thriugh the hull? What size bolt is this?
Think I am gonna give the R&D a try!! ( Or should I put the stocker back on with the cut wings?? )

The hole actually goes through the hull there is a big glob of silcon on the inside.

what the heck caused that?
Did you like the ride with the riva grate?
I ran the riva but now have a stock grate with big time moded, no wings and less. I cant decide which grate i like better. It seems that the stock moded grate hooks up maybe a little better than the riva in chop, but before i removed by riva i was able to get hooked in chop just took more effort.
To me the riva raises the front of the ski and the stock moded lowers the front so not sure what i want to stay with.
I saw a RXP-X with riva grate hook up awesome this weekend, in fact i could barely keep up in chop with stock grate so i dont know.
I have read where some people did not like the riva grate on rxt over stock. Since the hull is the same as regular rxt i would like to see the difference in our riva grate for T-X and the riva grate for older rxt,s
Any way wish you new what the culprit was.
Glad you were ok, does not sound like a fun or safe ride.

So... because the either the front bolt stipped out (prob. by incorrect installation or over-tightening), or the insert came out of the boat... it's the grates fault huh.
It happens to people with the R&Ds too. And it even happens to people with a "modified" stock grate. The pattern I see is, some of the intake grates that have been removed and reinstalled seem to strip out or pull the front insert.
If there is indeed more of this with the Riva grates, could it be because people don't take the time to lengthen the holes in the intake grate so that the line up 100% on the ski, or do they just "make it fit" by putting the bolts in loose at first and then tightening down (putting sideways pulling forces on the inserts/threads). I agree that on the Riva the holes should line up better, but it took me all of 3 minutes with a standard drill bit to make things 100% fit vs. 99% fit.
The Riva grate doesn't "pull down" harder on the grate, if anything it's the least "pulling" of all of the grates.
Just thinking out loud.
