    Just Blew My RXP Up!!

Hey guys i have a 2004 RXP with 74 hours on it and it has a green wheel, external intercooler, RRFPR, exhaust and filter and a few other mods.

I was going 8100 and they boat came to a sudden stop so it took it home and pulled the plugs and saw one of the electrodes bent over. GREAT!!!

So i straight away pulled the motor down and the sudden stop wasnt because it siezed but because the valve stop the piston going to TDC.

What would of caused the valves to fail?

sometimes the valves can break if the ski has been stored incorrectly for the winter and moisture causes rust on the valve stems which are hollow and then become weaker.
Otherwise maybe valve bounce but unlikely at those revs, is the timing chain intact?
either way thats a mess you got right there sorry to see it!

Yeah the timing chain is good. There was no rust on the valve stems as i looked at them before the destruction.

What do you think it would cost to fix something like this?

unlucky mate. i had an 04 that dropped a valve like what that looks like. the local guy around here quoted another bloke around 8k but heads can be repaired and parts and head repair here are around $2700 AU labor takes it around a 5k drop off pick up. this is just a first impression of what it costs around qld(Australia) so don't quote me on it. all the best, good time to have a play with it now

then i highly recommend you replace those valves in your 04 with the Ferrea valves.

Damn, more crap to worry about. The maintenance list is getting bigger over here.

Not to start a thread hijack, but what else should be taken care of in the '04 model skis? So far I know of: valves, flywheel bolts, anything else?
