    Thermostat ???

    My 93 SL 650 ran for 1.5 Hrs. then will die at WOT if I let off the gas it will run so went back to the dock cylinders felt hot when I got home pulled the thermo and put in hot water will not open until the water was 210 Deg. is it safe to pull the thermo and run the ski to see if thats the problem thanks

    Yes you can run without in most peeps leave it out.

    Just be sure to clean the mating surfaces of the housing, clean and seal the 8 ring.

    Do you leave the pop off valve and spring in if you pull the thermostat?

    Yes it helps with the back pressure.

    Sweet! That's one more part (the thermo) that I don't have to buy LOL

    Edit - and I ASSume the pop off valve and spring don't usually go bad?

    I just replaced y pop-off valve. I wouldn't say it is necessary, but if it is shaved off on the sidesI would replace it...

    If the thermostat is removed, then the water flow is almost unrestricted through the housing. Even if the pop-off valve were jammed shut, my guess is that you would still have enough cooling.

    The pop-off plastic end can get worn down, and they do sometimes get stuck closed. If the thermostat is removed, then don't worry about the pop-off. If the pop-off does worry you, leave it out too, or buy a new one.
