    hour meter question

im looking at a 2001 virage tx. the hour meter reads 553.6, the ski is in super shape. clean as heck. it just dont seem that this could be right. is there any way this meter could be running if the engine is not running? how many hours would be the life of this engine?

I've seen a Rental ski with 200+ hours on it,500+ would be rare.I've heard of the MFD's resetting, but not going the other way.

The MFI could be from another machine, that WAS high hours. Rentals easily get into the hundreds of hours.

Ignore the MFI hour meter, base your decision on a careful evaluation of the actual machine. Low hour machines can harbour problems too.

Do a thorough visual check, look for signs of engine rebuild. Check the hull inside and out, top and bottom, front and back.

Look for corrosion and muck around the engine and hull interior. Would this be a salt water machine?

Check cylinder compression. Check peak RPM and peak GPS speed in the water.
