    exhaust questions

okay so pardon my ignorance but i have a couple of questions..

how come nobody has their exhaust tips placed OUTSIDE of the water ?

can other things be used in place of the water box ? like a car muffler, or maybe even straight pipes ?

i know about the gibsons i'm just wondering if any others would work too

Should work...if you can hook them up to the Jpipe. A member here, "Tron", I think, used a car muffler on his with a pipe out the back. Many of us have the riva thru hull which runs the exhaust outside the ski but not up high, outside of the water. When running though the exhaust is outside the water. You have to be a careful about allowing water to flow back into the Jpipe which will go into the exhaust manifold and get in the engine with custom modified hookups.

i thought it might work, the water box is after all just an aluminum box with a baffle in it.

im just wondering if there would be a problem with moving the exhaust tip to be located outside the water ?

If the exhaust tip is higher than the jpipe inside then there could be water injestion when water got into the tip then flowed down and through the jpipe into the exhaust manifold.

Yes it is but there is a reason it is in there. It is used to cool down the exhaust gases before they exit the ski. Also it is used as a muffler.

My question is why would you want the exhaust above or outside the waterline? When you are riding the ski the exhaust is out of the water.
