buying a 2004 RXP, need some pre purchase advice

    Hi Guys,

its my first time on the forums and i hope this question isnt overly repentative as i am sure its a common issue.

im buying my first jet in a week or so.

    The specs are as follows
    Year 2004
    Model RXP
    Hours 180

The seller has dealer records and says it rides well.
We have just agreed on a price (6000$) for the jet and trailer.

I will be getting a test ride with the jet and time to inspect it before the purchase so i would like to get some pointers from the experts on what to look for. I have read up on the ceramic washer issue and i was wondering if there was a way to check in advance before buying it, can i maybe take a look at the washers without removing too many parts (like i can prob take the seat, air filter etc out but no tools).

So far i have the following (tips from the forums and friends)
    1. check max rpm, should go over 6400rpm, max speed more than 45mph.
    2. check turbine grate for any rock damage
    3. check electronics for any flashouts/cut out while riding.

it has a lot of hours but it was dealer serviced so what do you guys think?

If it has the ceramic washers still intact, should i buy the kit off ebay and swap them on my vacation? is it relatively easy if i bring the needed tools, i will be working outside, so no garage. A rough time would be appreciated and maybe a how to on this site?

You can also email me directly at [email protected]. Its pretty urgent as your advice will determine my purchase.

    Thanks in advance.

    welcome to the forum

    • Inspect the hull for damage
    • Do a compression test
    • If the Ceramic washers are in place, send the SC for Jerry to install the metal ones.
    • His service is cheap. And its done right.
    • Also, when you go to look at it, pull the SC hose intake, and stick your finger in there to see if the impeller freely spins, if it does, the ceramic washers have failed.
    • Try to water test the vehicle if you can.(test drive)

Your RPM should be around 8k, not 6400. If it is at 6400 then there is something wrong, like the washers went.

i mean it has 180 hrs, what are teh changes the washers are ok?

I think its a lost cause right? from ur experience what do you think?

What else is a good jet out there, a yamaha GP1300? Because of this sc issues, i hate all seadoos, a bunch of POS canadian junk machines.

I have a raptor 660 that runs like a champ without any of this ridiculous maintenance and problematic terms of use.

    Is something wrong with you?

First you say you are going to buy a seadoo then you say they are all POS canadian junk machines and you hate them all.

You should get a honda 4 stroke
