    faster1200's pump shoe issue!

I built Dan's ski about 4 years ago.Dan took his ski to the dealer because of the shoe pulling in the rear. This was a couple years or so ago and i had since done alot more work to it but never took the time to look close at his shoe.Yamaha used some kind of crap on the mounting surface, were the shoe bolts to,to fill in the cracks! Anyway,i had looked under Dan's ski last saturday and saw the most awful pump shoe ive ever saw! The rear of the shoe was actually FLUSH with the rear of the hull!!!!!!! There was a .049 step in the front!!!!!!! Dan's ski gets up and flat hauls the mail but tops out at 70mph.Anyway,i had to grind down and flatten Yamaha's super job on the filler crap and make it flat,i then took a new pump shoe and have to grind it down to make it work. The job was intense, grinding, useing a straight edge to keep checking my work till it was true. After bolting the shoe up about 8 times,it fit perfect! Installed a new ppk,did a little magic on the 1200 grate,re-adjusted the ride plate. The shoe now sits .070 from the hull after glued in.Dan's speeds are now on the rise!

Looking forward to seeing the NEW speeds!

When my shoe pulled on me in late 03',i lost 3.2-3.5mph on the 1300 triple.Hope to gain 2+mph on Dan's.

Woody I had the same thing happen to me 3 days before the radar runs at the bug this year. First I had a 800 grate break on me which I know you saw the post. Then the following two days I cracked 1 more 800 and a 1200. when I got home I discovered that on the same side of the pump shoe that the first grate broke on and pulled down at speed the shoe had pulled down about .70 thousandths and stripped the insert bolts. So low and behold I ran radar at the bug with my pump shoe hanging down on one side. Was wodering where my previous speed went all of the sudden..It cost me approx. 1-1.5 mph at the bug. Not making excuses, just sharing info..
