    Help with Depth Finder

Installed BRP depth finder in my RXT long time ago. Finally got
wiring into ecm done and took to dealer to have BUDS activated
    for it.
    Problem: does not work!!!!
When first put in key will show "0" on display. Then goes
to -- (dash, dash) and just flashes that.
Our water is very dirty, mudddy here so I know won't always
give best/accurated reading .. But heck, I'm not getting anything..
    Please advise

    debth

I had dealer install a Debth finder on the RXT. First time I took it to the water it would read the same as yours. Took it back to dealer and they had to call SD to get the thing to work correctly. Make sure the puck is mounted correctly in the hull.

Riva installed mine....works great, but I do get erratic readings on really soft/muddy sea beds....pretty sure most d finders do that...

Whenever I install a depth finder on a boat, I test it land first by putting a metal can - like a paint can under the transducer and turn it on. This method has worked for me for the last 30-some years. The "---" usually means that the depth finder can't acquire the return signal... Ron

I know that the transducer is installed properly in the hull.
Used the slow set epoxy to mount the mounting "ring" in
the hull. Then when set (waited week or so), Put in that gel
pad and then snapped in transducer.. It only goes in 1 way.
Then later when had time, I "pinned" in ecm connections per
the instructions supplied for my Year, then went to
    dealer to have activated.
The only thing dealer said on phone when made appt. is that
we can't guarantee it will work : I said " it should , I bought
boat and depth finder kit from you!"

Can you expand on the metal pail deal??? and how exactly
you do that KingOfFun??? how big, do you put water in it, etc???

No water needed. Just put a metal can (like a 1 gallon paint can) under the spot where the transducer is and turn on the ski. On boats where you can turn on the depth finder without starting the engine, you can actually hear the transducer transmitting the ping... Ron

Not sure if this will help you, or not. The instructions provided for the kit are not very good, in fact, they suck for the X boats. That being said, you have an 07, and the instructions there are pretty good.

I'd go back and recheck the wires you plugged into the fuse block. Its possible one of them backed out, or they're not seated properly, or you could just be one hole off.

Also, not sure if you have another dealer nearby(I used to live in Clinton, MO. and I know where Olathe is, but I don't know the dealers around there), but you might wanna try a different dealer. Its possible they have no clue as to what they are doing with the BUDS unit. Did you take the instructios in with you so they could see what they need to do with the BUDS and what commands to use???

Lastly, check the fuse...stranger things have happened. I think its probably just a loose wire in the fuse block, or the dealer not knowing what he's doing with the BUDS.

I assume you put in all the gel pads not just 1?

I don't know if its advice, but I'm glad I bought the GTX Limited. Came stock with the depth finder and it even works with my Riva ECU
