    couple questions

i have just a couple questions about the 96 sl780 that i have.... and i promise i will leave you guys alone for a while!!
1 my ski doesnt have a "HOOK" for towing.. can i tow a raft with the hole in center of deck??? and not tear the hull up or shold i install a tow hook in the back under the grab bar area???? (reinforce from behind the hull)
2 what is the max speed and rpm this thing should run??? when i got it top rpm was 5800 with occasional 6000 but i had it on the lake last weekend and water was nice and smooth for a good long strech and saw 58 mph with steady rpm of 6400.... is this my warning of a problem or just normal??? i have heard they run damn good right before they blow up.....
keep in mind this thing sat for a year and a half... and only showed 3.5 hours on it when i got it.. can the hrs be reset??? mfd looks about like the ski as far as the wear goes.. not brand new but the ski is in good shape for a 96

Don't install any "hooks" in the hull. The 2 seater isn't meant for pulling, but use the hole if you do. It's much stronger than the 1/4" thick hull under the grab bar.

Max speed on GPS would be around 52 MPH. On the MFD (deam o meter) maybe 57-58 MPH. Max RPM should be arund 65-6600.

Get a small light and view the tops of the piston domes through the plug hole for piston wash. That will tell you if you're in trouble. All black is bad (lean) and all black with finger nail sized clean spots on the edges is ideal. Clean spots are an indication that fuel is sufficient and "washing" the carbon deposits off. (better too much fuel than not enough)

Yes the MFD hrs. can be reset. The procedure is in the tech section.

I know the MFD can be 'reset' to correct weirdness problems (more like rebooted), but I didn't think you could intentionally reset the engine hour counter to zero.

If you can reset the MFD engine hours, could you point me to the info?

You sure can, and it's in there. Not sure exactly where.
