I have a 96 XP and I started it up and lots of smoke came out does any one else get this it's only for a few min. then it goes away?

The oil check valves in the rotary cover or crank main seals.

Most probable cause...
Your leak is probably the cases, not the crank seals. Remove the 3/8" oil lines from your oil tank that feed each side of the engine. Buy a 3/8" tee, and a barb tee with a air schrader and low pressure gauge. Pressurize to 6 PSI and see if it holds or leaks down. If it does, my money is on the cases.
