If you are able to pull the floating ring back far enough so that you can remove the retaining clip you may not need the special tools.

If you have two people you can do it. One person to pull back the carbon ring and the other to pull the clip out.

Yes, you just need a strong grip and some muscle. I pulled my floating ring back to reveal the c-clip easily. Got the c-clip off and held the supporting ring back by myself. I have an RXP though. Yours might be farther back on the GTX?

Darth, leave the pump in for starters.
Have someone pull back on the floating ring to reveal the c-clip. The other person pops the c-clip off.
Now you can pull the pump.
Start to pull the driveshaft out. Use a crescent wrentch to keep the bearing in place that's up against the PTO housing. Or you can do what I did and take off the factory oetiker clamp. I found that to be easier.
Start to slide the driveshaft out and slide the bearing assembly (if necessary) and the floating ring off the driveshaft.
Pull the driveshaft out completely and your done.
Reassemble the way you took it apart, and if you took off the factory oetiker clamp that holds the bearing in place like I did you will need to replace it.

I think that's everything. If I forgot something someone please chime in.

I agree. I never use the special tool to remove my driveshaft.

I wound up using the two person approach. Had to get my dad over to help.

How much is marine mechanics school? Or maybe the college has a basic mechanics class? I need to get my wife to know what a c-clip is and how to remove it.

It's $100 last time I checked. And it's the most SIMPLE contraption you have ever seen.
