    what calls for wear ring?

when and why would you replace your wear ring ? I hear about these people replacing their wear rings, But when it comes to these things I'm kinda of stupid! I still have not got my rxp back from the shop and while they were doing the stage 2 to it should I replace the wear ring?

get a a nice bright flash light ..Jam it and your face up into the intake grate .. look at the white round shaped plastic piece in there look for large gouges, chunks missing or a space between it it should be relatively smooth and line up perfect with no spacing ...

Normal wear and tear will deteriorate the plastic wear ring. If you suck something up look forward to changing it.

Under ideal conditions the stock plastic ring will last a long time and may even make the boat run a bit quicker. However seldom does anyone ride in ideal conditions. If you operate in water with suspended sand or silt, run up onto the beach, suck in any foreign material..... from weeds and twigs to rocks, or have a prop that flexes or fits too tightly, you will soon ruin the plastic ring and begin to loose performance. Good thing it is a simple job to replace it and the replacements don't cost an arm and a leg. The SS rings are costly and can be ruined almost as easily if you suck up the wrong object, like a rock or gravel.

    RRXXPP:

Here is a picture I took last night of my pump with teh impeller still on.

Look at the white thing circling the impeller, that is a wear ring.......It is about 1/8" thick or so.

Pretty easy to change, I am a newbie and gollowed instructions under "important RXP info" section for removing pump and there you go.
I had it out in 45 minutes the first time I tried it.

If you are having the stage 2 installed it includes a new prop and I'm sure if the wear ring needs replacing they will let you know and replace it when installing the new prop.

Jeff, you have some chewed up leading edges and some wear ring gouges. That's hurting your performance. It will run fine, but not to optimum performance. But I have seen worse. It's all a matter of perspective.
