Possible stupid question 04 RXP slipping SC washers

Possibly a stupid question but here goes anyways. Has anyone ever modified the SC so that it was a direct drive eliminating the clutch? What would be the problem with doing so? I have a full machine shop and could probably figure out how to do so, but I dont know what the downfall would be.

Also, what are the chances that my washers have disintegrated or are just slipping?

I have a bone stock RXP, 04 model. About 80 hours or so and power is low and no SC whine anymore, I am assuming that it is the washers.

    Thanks
    Bob

man, what a stupid question!! naaa .. no question is dumb.

i'd bet that ur washers are just gone all together... not good .. loss of power and no more whine, def needs a fixing.

sure people have tried making the drive gear direct with no clutch desgin... the results were even more catastrophic then a slipping clutch. IE... u'll snap the gear and/or shaft the second the ski gets unhooked from the water, the SC spins faster than u can imagine, the motor gets reloaded with water and SNAP!

don't experiement with this... others have already gone thru the heartache of doing it

If your RPM's are down around 6200 or so you can bet your washers are all over the bottom of your engine.

Its been tried to direct drive the SC clutch. What happens is the shaft splits in two, the gear and other clutch pieces drop down into the engine and wedge between the double gear on the flywheel and block and destroys the engine.

The clutch is a necessary evil.

    OK,

I am gonna call the dealer and see if I can get warranty to pay for some or all of this, I mean people used to do it to me all the time at the car dealer, and obviously this is a common thing.

If not, looks like it comes out over the winter and it gives me the push I need to get some mods done on it. Definitly an overhaul if the washers cut loose?

    Thanks again!

OK, so let me get this straight, these washers are designed to slip all of the time? Thats kind of a piss-poor design, isnt it?... No matter how much lubrication you put down their, they are eventually going to fail. I wonder why they didnt gear reduce the blower or waste gate it to prevent overpressurization. With the aftermarket steel washers, how long do they last? do they eventually fail also?

    Thanks

All clutch's are designed to slip and provide friction.

No clutch is meant to last forever. Its a wear item.

The metal washers will eventually wear out and slip. When that happens you just shim them to put more tension on them. They wont disentegrate and trash your motor.

    OK, got ya! Thanks!

Stage III Question. Does it really turn 80+ MPH? I mean, if I am pulling it and doing some work anyways, whats the harm in going all out? Also, do I need to send something in to have the computer activated, or does it come ready to go?

Thanks again, I know this is off topic, I appreciate it!

Bob, Riva claims the stage 3 is 80+
I believe it as many of us are running those speeds with similar mods.

The ECU must be activated by your dealer, or you can send your throttle body in to Riva and they will activate it there to match your ECU.

Either way you forfeit your warranty.

Warranty is gone anyways, I have owned it for 2+ years. The warranty is 1 year, correct?
