    Impeller oil 98 XPL

OK so I am assuming I did something wrong. I changed the oil in both of my skis impellers a 98 GSXL and a 98 XPL I changed out the O Rings and oil they had oil in them no water. My GSXL wrecked the jet pump no oil left just water. So I pulled the XPL apart same thing almost no oil and lots of water but the jet pump bearings etc are still good. SO what am I doing wrong? Should I be checking this oil after each ride? Should I put some RTV to help the Oring seal? is there something else I should check? Of course the GSXL seals and bearings where wrecked but the XPL I pulled the impeller and the seal looks good

Cone oring should be coated with 518 Permatex. Tighten snugly, don't distort the plastic. Use 241 blue Loctite on the threads to prevent them from vibrating loose.

You need to change the front seal on each at a minimum, to eliminate the seal from being bad too.

    How are you filling them?

Fill all the way more important than you think air will compress and oil wont. Also the Seals can be damaged by pulling out the pump shaft an putting it back without the Seal spreader tool. Its a taperd plastic guide that gose over the end of the shaft to protect the seal from the sharp edge of the shaft..

Hmm I still have it apart I guess it cant hurt to replace the seals. Where do I get a seal spreading tool or is there another way I know cars a light coat of oil to lube the seal is a start.

don't fill the pump all the way up with oil, the air space allows the oil to expand as it heats up from the bearings friction. fill it all the way with no air space a sa buffer and you can blow oil out the front of the pump and when it contracts it can pull water back in. trust me.

the pump take 2 ounces only, or there abouts. measure it out and you'll be right every time....by eye is not the right way IMHO>

I've always filled mine with the pump sitting level on a table. Fill to oil is at bottom of threads, after settling a few times. This leaves a generous air gap.

if you found any water in the cone you need to replace the bearings.
the book shows how to do a leak down test. you should run that.
