    New Ski

I'm a new owner of a 98 GP1200. Picked it and a 95 Polaris SL750 for 1k. Couldn't really pass up the deal. Guy said that the GP lost power last summer and that he had it winterized and that was it. Got it home and checked it over. Ski looks great. Eveything is clean. Did a quick compression check, and got around 100lbs in the front, and middle cylinders, and nothing in the rear. I haven't had time to pull the head, but does this sound like it just needs a new piston?

sounds like it ran very lean. I believe the end piston is always first to go. Plus the other compression is low. sould be around 120. Did you do it at wot?

Yeah, I did the test at WOT. All I had was a press on tester, I don't have a screw on, so that is why the numbers could be a little low.

Sounds like nothing a simple hone can do. I would bore .50mm or .25mm if it was a stock bore.

I think we are going to rebuild the top end and see what happens. I think I want to rebuild the carbs while I'm at it. Where can I get the kits for that?
