    3" vs. 4"+ air intake

So I see the Riva 3" power filter for the 4Tec motors (the front mount, not the Pro-Series). It seems to be a safe bet in terms of least water ingestion proned. I read lots of people using 4" or even bigger tubing to maximize the air to the SC.

However my question is all air has to funnel down into the same sized opening to the SC so is there really a sizeable flow difference/performance gain by going more than 3"? A gain that is backed by some sort of flow study, graph or nice pie chart? Everyone loves pie!

Yes there is an improvement. The air is being pulled through the intake by the SC that has a 2 3/4" opening or whatever and a 3 inch tube does not supply as much air to it as a 4" would. Efficiency is lost due to imperfections in the flow of the 3" intake where as the 4" has enough extra volume to supply all the air the SC wants.

I've been working on flow numbers, the 4" kanaflex setup outflows anything out there, even the Riva Rear air (with filter in place)...

I am glad to hear this because I decided to go with the Kanaflex solution. I also went with the 4 inch supercharger adapter from the online store. (all should be here this week).

The 4" adapter MAJORLY improves flow, as apposed to a flat ring style adapter...

You can make a 4 inch front air intake that will do just as good or better than the riva and not have to worry about water injestion..I have on on my wifes ski and have zero issues with it..

Thanks Danny for the info...and Snoman, care to share your 4" dream? (I bet you don't hear that much from the ladies ) NCHeel...that makes sense. So the adaptor with the Kanaflex seems to be ideal in making an intake. And the pre-filter? Good to have just in case?

I went from a riva 3'' to the riva rear air, and i saw no gains. (rpm nor speed). I have rode many times since, thinking that maby the day I tested was a horriable day, but it is the same every time.
