I'll take a stab at why they didn't do this on the GPR in the first place...
It would never clear the stock "anoconda" exhaust system that runs over the top of the stock carbs. However, on a triple pipe machine, there is tons of room.
I'm just going to try and get the same rpms and speeds that I am getting with the side draft.
My goal is:
1. To get the carbs off the danged floor of the ski.
2. Naturally isolating them from water.
3. Making carb adjustments easier.
4. Being to run monster flame arrestors with socks, and no performance loss due to small flame arrestors with socks.
5. If smooth water, then remove socks totally.
6. Ability to remove carbs without breaking my gorilla hands.
My main concerns right now:
1. clearing the throttle linkage on the sides of the cylinders pipe bosses.
2. mounting the Polaris intakes cleanly.
3. Finding an existing manifold, in case somebody else wants to do it too.

Mark that is awesome.
And for some very different reasons I know someone is trying to turn a down into sidedraft ski and that will probably get them a world title at the world finals...
Remember I said that....

Just noticed you called it updraft and I called it downdraft, is it the same thing?

Mike was standing on his head when he wrote it.

Yep..downdraft, my bad.
Course it is updrafting..or is it backdrafting? Nope, thats the movie.

I would love another way to mount those dang Novis... Not menion getting them off the floor of the hull. Hope it works!
But aren't sidedrafts supposed to flow better? And aren't Novi's mounted upside down for better signal in the first place?

1st question: I don't know. I've heard it both ways. I hear that increased velocity may increase both mid and top.... we'll see.
2nd question: Oh hell no. Novi's have a great signal no matter which way you mount them. Now, what if putting the intakes on the gpr changes the intake signal... then what? Maybe a rejet, or a return-jet pressure adjust?
