A 13-year-old boy was killed Wednesday night in the American Falls Reservoir. A jet skier ran over the child who was playing in the water with a church group.
According to an obiturary in the local paper, the boy's name is Erik Travis Simnitt.
Funeral services are being arranged by Colonial Funeral Home in Pocatello.
Condolences can be made at www.colonial-funeralhome.com.
Around 7 p.m., the Power County Sheriff's Office responded to the call on the west shore just north of where the boats dock.
The jet skier was a 26-year-old male who's developmentally delayed. He was at the reservoir with the C.W. H.O.G. group, which gives a chance for disabled persons to enjoy some recreational activities.
The group comes to the reservoir every Wednesday evening. The jet skier ran into the child who was playing with his church group from the Tyhee ward. The boy was transported by ambulance to Harms Memorial Hospital where he died. He was the only victim in this accident.
C.W. H.O.G. has been around for 27 years and this is the first death they've ever had.
Police are left questioning what needs to change so this never happens again.
"Look at passing a bill that would put a restriction on personal watercraft and those individuals that operate those watercrafts at a younger age. I think it needs to most definitely be looked at," said Pete Williams, Power County Marine Patrol Deputy.
The police haven't released the name of the child or the jet skier yet. They're still in the process of investigating and further information will be given out later on.

Fatal Jet Ski Accident in American Falls Still Being Investigated
Posted: Aug 6, 2008 04:20 PM PDT
Last week we told you about a fatal jet ski accident at the American Falls Reservoir that took the life of a 13-year-old boy.
Wednesday, investigations into what happened are still underway.
Power County Sheriff Detective Max Sprague says they have been investigating since this tragedy happened. On Wednesday, a mechanic in Idaho Falls looked at the jet ski and it appears to have been working properly, now it's up to the prosecutor's office to determine what will happen next.
Det. Sprague says on the evening of July 30th Erik Simnitt, 13, was tubing on the shore of the reservoir when he was hit by a man riding a jet ski and later died from his injuries.
The man riding that jet ski was a member of Idaho State University's CW HOG Program and is developmentally delayed.
Det. Sprague says an investigation into how the accident happened is almost finished. Detectives are now working on writing their reports and will forward them to the prosecutor's office with their findings this week who will in turn decide how to proceed in the case.
ISU is also investigating the tragic accident. A task force is being put together at the request of President Arthur Vailas to examine what happened and find out if there was anything that could have been done to prevent the accident from happening.
In the meantime ISU's Graham Garner says CW HOG is still keeping members active.
Graham Garner: "CW HOG is operating as usual. Their calendar is still full; they're still going through many activities and programs they have in place. Apart from having suffered a great tragedy and the loss of this young boy and one of their participants, they're trying to move forward."
CW HOG was created at ISU 27 years ago to give people with disabilities the chance to take part in outdoor activities. The task force that will be evaluating the program is expected to be formed next week.
Det. Sprague says more information on the case should be released Friday.
