    Would you reuse this piston?

I have a 2001 XP with 350 hours, 1 of my carbs stopped working and was running on 1 cylinder. here is a pic of the bad cyclinder and 1 of the good cylinder

I am rebuilding the carb now, but should I change this piston?

It went lean, I would replace, if for no other reason the spot in the middle is gonna end up being a "hotspot" and lead to detonation. That hole was getting air but not enough fuel and it started to use the piston as fuel. Look at all the metal transfer......

so put new pistons on a crank with 350 hours?

    1. fix carbs and wait for motor to fail?
    2. rebuild motor now?

What you have pics of doesn't tell what you really need to know. Pull the cylinder and look at the sides of the piston for damage. Did it seize? Is there aluminum on the sides of the cylinder?

Your bores need to be miced to see how much they are worn...especially after 350 hours. You will probably be due for a bore and once-overs.

I guess I am going to bore and go once-over

You are rebuilding both carbs right ?

I have to say @350 hours that motor doesnt owe you anything. Take it down to the crank.

Especailly if you've never changed the c/b shaft oil. It will probably come out and see you real soon, if you don't address a rebuild...he he!
