I'm rebuilding the top end of my buddies gsx and I need to know how tight the head needs to be. Anyone have the numbers? Thanks in advance

    Torque inside/out 12 ft/lbs, then repeat to 17 ft/lbs.

    Head bolts: 9 ft# first 17 ft# second. (same)

While we are on the subject, my clymer manual shows 30 ft lbs for the 787 head. The factory manual shows 17. Is the Clymer a typo?

Clymer is a typo big-time...it is correct for the cylinders though.

clymer manuals are full of mistakes, but better than nothing at all.

    email from clymer

"Thanks for using our manuals, and for bringing this matter to our attention. The correct torque specification for the cylinder head bolts on the 787 type engines is indeed 17 ft.-lbs., just as you noted (I assume you are using the factory manual as your source for this discrepancy). This error has already been notated and will be changed in future printings/editions of the manual."
