Exclamation virage won't start after running for a while

i have a 2000 virage that will not start from time to time. if the lanyard is out the starter turns but no start, if the lanyard is in the starter button does nothing. i have pulled the electronics box off and have traced it to the CDI i think. when it does not start, if i disconnect the main cable from the CDI to the stator, wait 5 seconds and reconnect, it starts right up and runs fine until you stop again. if i disconnect either the brown or gray wire going to the CDI i can replicate the problem. is the issue the CDI or a connection in the stator? the ideas on this site are great. thanks for the help.

kanobi, WELCOME to the Green Hulk Forums!!

With the electrical box open, assure the red/purple wire from the CDI is connected to the orange marked spade on the terminal board.
If it's attached to the red/purple spade on the terminal board, move it over to the orange marked spade and see if that solves your problem.

I'll cross my fingers for the CDI power connection update.

i believe that the connections are all correct. is there a way to tell if the stator is shot by looking at it?

    It's not updated.
Follow the red/purple wire from the CDI. You'll see it leads to the bullet connector and T's to 2 red/purple wires.
You need to unplug the CDI red/purple wire, change the connector to a spade style and plug it into the terminal board with the orange wires.

I don't have an editing program but note the orange wire on the right hand side of the photo. It leaves the terminal board and connects to the red/purple wire from the CDI.

For circling stuff, I just use Windows PAINT (in the Accessories folder).

Open picture, select line mode. Click the widest line, and click a color (I like Red or Yellow).

Then chose the circle drawing tool. Draw your circle (or oval). If you don't like how it looks, press Ctrl Z to undo it.
