Bad smell and smoke usually means a poor
choice in oil. Changing brands can make a world
    of difference.

what kind of oil should i use. should i still use yamalube? My question is.....does that cat cut out a lot of smoke and smell. if it does it it worth bypassing the cat for the performance gaines.

you are not going to get a lot of power gains from cat cut off maybe 1 horse power, but it will sound louder and will run cooler which is why you to that set up. I have it you will be happy. amsoil does not smoke as much as yamalube. i have a gpr 1200 149 hours on it no cat since 92 hours when it overheated.
