Intake leaks and the use of 1211 or YamaBond

THIS DOES NOT PERTAIN TO STOCK REED CAGES, UNLESS YOU ARE USING A SPACER BEHIND THEM...

I just heard of another possible lean failure tonight related to using 1211 or yamabond to seal reed spacers or reed adaptors to the cases and/or intake manifolds.

In short, don't do it. USE gaskets, not sealer. If you have used sealer only, but have not experienced a failure, consider yourself lucky, and the clock ticking.

I have not identified an online source of these gaskets, but I think Fernando can get some. I think one of the guys on the chat board had located some in Florida too.

Yes, just talked to Mario about that very thing. Use gaskets. Period.

I think because of the pliability of the 1211 and the low torque of the intake bolts (8lbs.), you're not going to get a good seal that can resist vibration and "creeping" of the 1211. Of course, you learned the hard way Mark.

    So far:
-Myself, when I stacked two spacer plates.
-During a chat night, we learned of someone having a failure with the Vforce adaptor.
-Insandiego Joe with a single spacer plate.
-I just learned of a "grey death" slow siezure from an email last night. No facts to prove it was the vforce spacer or sealer, just an owners opinion.
-When I pulled my last spacer plate off, before switching to the Vforce reeds, there was zero sealer left on some areas of the case/spacer where it had been squeezed out.

Funny you mention it...no I didnt get to the stage where my motor went kaboom, but I made the mistake of using 1211 in addition to the gaskets and I totally forgot to install the spacer plate (been 2 years since I put one of these together) so I called Fer and Piston and both were like WRONG!!!! So now I'm in the process of cleaning everything back to it's original splendor so I can re-install all properly. That's one of the dangers of doing an install "by forum" or Phone LOL. I have no cule what I'm doing and dont have benefit of my mates, Cosca and Darrell anymore. But Pistonwash and Fernando to the rescue!!! Little parentesis while Wilma beats us up, hopefully we will survive and I can concentrate on finishing this beast next week.

Fernando has gaskets. I used them on my v-force reeds.

Ya know, that is what concerns me with this design. We are dependant on a dang'd model specific gasket...that really isn't used on any model.

What would be the cat's winky, would be to get powderlites to machine an o-ring groove on both sides of the adapter plates.
