Exclamation Need Help! My Trim Is Killing Me

Hey guys, I know that there is other stuff on trim out there but i cant seem to find what i am looking for. I have a 96 780SLX. The engine is running great. My trim is not. So far i have removed the trim motor and tested it with a battery. It worked perfect. I also noticed my bilge pump was seized. I replaced that. My understanding was that the bilge runs whenever the boat is on right? It does not run for me when i started it. I dont know where to go with this. My CDI fuses are in good shape. I am considering buying a new trim switch. Is there any way to test the switch? Also, My MFD seems to work but the trim position area does not show on it anymore. Everything else does. I hope you guys can help. So far i have gotten a lot of good info from this site. I love this ski so i would like to get it back to 100%. Thanks! - Andy

Your LR23 switch is bad.. Move the orange wire to the r/pur Is your battery charging?? With the engine running you should have 14 volts at the battery.

Beerdart, So I am jumping it just to test it or is this something i can use permanent? I am assuming that if my trim and pump work when i jump them then i know for sure that lr23 is bad. Where could i find a new LR23? My voltage on my mfd reads 14 or so when i am running it. Will i hurt anything by jumping this? Thanks a lot for the tips. You guys are an awesome resource.

What your doing is hooking the trim so it will work anytime, not just when the ski is running. It can be left that way,I set mine up that way, Beerdart clued me in on that too.

One thing you guys might want to think about here.
When the trim motor locks up or shorts (and it will) what protects the wiring system?
Just the 15 amp circuit breaker?
If that's so, then wouldn't it take down the rest of the electrical system.

Isn't that the same thing that happens on the "when run only" circuit? I guess a in-line fuse could be added.

I'd certainly add a fuse. If you pop the breaker, you'll certainly shut the boat down and of course no starting system either.
I'd think about just replacing the LR23.

That would be best,John Zigler normally has them,I think for under 20.00.

Guys, Thanks for the responses. Sounds like I have a few options. If I wanted to replace the LR23 mod where can I get that part? Assuming I cant get one from John Zigler. I am guessing that it is not something that I can pick up anywhere. Also, what size fuse should I use? Should I just use the same as the Orange/black wire in the CDI?
