    Need Help with carbs 96xp!!!!???

Well I thought my ski was pretty much untouched being that an old guy had it before me guess I was wrong. I guess your never to old to be a hack, my ski runs great it does about 54 mph gps speed o was right on also always starts fine smokes a little more than I would like it to when I start it after sitting for a few days. So I thought I would pull the carbs out clean the filters and just check everything out since its new to me. I did not like what I saw stripped screws High speed adj. as the book says should be closed they were out allmost 3 turns and the lows as the book says should be out 1 1/4 turns they were out more than that and the butterflys I thought should be comp. closed well one was and one was not one was open a little bit. As far as I know this ski is comp. stock unless it's been bored I have not checked that the compresion was 165 front 163 back. I just want to put it back the right way I will get a carb rebuild kit soon but that should not effect the adj. of the carb other than stripped screws and adj. being out everything else looked fine. I just don't want to blow up my ride.

The idle screw is on the front carb, and keeps this butterfly open. When you take them loose, the other closes because the connecting arm no longer has tension. You have to synchronize the carbs bolted to the intake.

Make sure you pull the filter screens on the other side of the carbs. Dealers can be hacks too, as the owner may not have touched the carbs.
