    Welcome to the Hulk!

Download the 1992-1998 Polaris Service Manual from here.

When it runs slowly, is the engine running smoothly, but no power, or is it surging or stuttering?

    Service history?

Has the machine been sitting for a while (months or years)?

    What model year?

New coil? Which coil? Stator or ignition? Part# ?

When the problem happens, does applying the choke help it power up?

Are the correct spark plugs installed?

Has the fuel filter been replaced?
Any water in the fuel/water separator?
Is the gasoline in the tank fresh?

    What diagnostics have you done?

You need to figure out whether the problem is fuel or ignition (spark).

If applying the choke helps, then the problem is poor fuel delivery into the engine. This is often caused by dirty filters inside the carburetors, or an accumulation of gunk over time that is causing things inside the carbs to stick.

Spend some time with the 1992-1998 Service Manual. Lots of good info in there.

And lots more info on here. Do some searching, and lots of reading.

Need more information here. Need to figure out if the problem is fuel delivery, or ignition/electrical.

Does your machine have the MFD digital display?
When it is running well, what maximum RPM are you seeing? When it runs poorly, what is the RPM limited to

Any warning lamp or messages on the MFD when the power is reduced?

When the problem occurs, does applying the choke help?

If the choke does NOT help, then the problem is probably not fuel. Without stopping the engine, if you can loosen the gas cap enough to relieve the air pressure, then re-close it (to keep water out), does the problem improve?

You say that shutting the engine off, then restarting it, makes the problem go away. How long does it need to be shut off for the problem to go away? A few seconds, or several minutes or longer?

From cold start, how long until the problem first occurs? When you restart the engine, how long until the problem occurs again?

You might want to open the electrical box (disconnect the battery negative connection first). Check for corrosion, loose wires or terminals. Make sure the screws for the negative (black wiring) are tight and clean. There should be zero corrosion or moisture inside the box.
