which steering cable do I need?

Trying to figure out what year boats I can get a steering cable from. It's a 95 SL 750, but with an extended pump. I keep breaking the threaded rod extension setups, so I'd like to get whatever cable will fit right.

I guess I could measure from the hull to the steering nozzle and have a seller check that measurement, but it'd help if anyone can tell me what models to look for.

    thanks
    Eric

my 1996 SLT 780 has an extended pump on it. its stock that way. so you might want to look at the 1996 slt steering cable as replacement.

THAT'S the cable you want. ^^^^^^^

Mind if I ask how you keep breaking the extension?

    John, email sent.

xlint, I don't know. Last year, it was the threaded rod extension that broke. Instead of using just regular jam nuts, I bought the little 1/2" long coupling nuts to use as jam nuts. I figured it'd reinforce the threaded rod a little better. I think it's only 10-32 thread? The other day, it broke the thread on the actual steering cable, leaving about 3 threads left on the cable. I don't know what's up with it.

The later cables are 1/4-28 ..I might have a cable I can check on Monday we are at the Lake House in VT. How is the 94 running?

If the later cables are larger, that'd be sweet. I'll need the rod end type piece that attaches the cable to the nozzle, too. Let me know if you have one.

94 is doing good. I've ridden it a couple times since submerging it. I think it's ok. We've been pulling it up on the beach, as I havent had a chance pull it out of the water to figure out what's leaking. I still havent burned that tank of old gas out of it. It'll bog slightly now after idling for a little while now, but otherwise it runs solid. I'm going to put some fresh plugs and fresh gas in it tomorrow and give her a full day of beating. Carbs might need to be cleaned this winter.

I noticed you had BPR7ES plugs in it. I have 8's in the 95. It's been a while, but I was thinking 8's were the ones to run. 8's are one step hotter, correct?

I think NGK plugs get colder as the number gets higher.
