Mexico gas? Can I use it?

I've been going to Mexico for years to ride (2000 GPR). I have always taken gas with me across the border into Mexico (Mexicali). The last few years I have gotten harrassed a bit. They say that I can't bring gas in to Mexico. "Its the law", as they point to the sign that says the same. I usually pay the "tax" and they let me through. But, this last time they turned me away. I just drove 5 1/2 hours and I can't get in to Mexico with my 80 gallons of gas.
So, my question is can you use Mexican gas? I don't even know if they have 91 octane and if they do is it the same as the states? If they have 87 only can I use that with some octane boost?
I'm getting tired of getting harrassed and it would be easier to just get it across the border in Mexico.
    Anybody?
    Thanks!

if you are in a truck you could get one of the under the tool box fuel tanks and carry extra fuel in there and tell them it is for your truck

I have a Toyota CrewMax and I was actually thinking of that. In the mean time I thought I'd throw this thread out and see if anyone had any thoughts before I dropped the dough for the extra gas tank....
    Thanks for the reply.

There was a big story on this! you can't bring in like 55 gal drums but ski's are fine because they assume you came in full so you can leave full same with the tow vehicle

I go through Calixico/Mexicali border (toward San Felipe), not the Tijuana border. After filling up gas cans, mex insurance, etc, it gets to be 5+ hours.

I'm still looking for an answer to my original question if you can help....
    Can I use Mexican gas?

    Thanks
