4TEC/SC - Can you start the motor without the Driveshaft??

Just curious - I have the motor back in my ski (for the second time in 5 days) but don't have the drive shaft hooked up yet.

Can you start these motors without the driveshaft hooked up?? Any issues with that??

Oil will come pouring out the back of the engine... I wouldn't recommend it.

What Mark said. You can't even keep oil in the engine without the drive shaft installed.

Why could you not get a PVC pipe plug and sand it down on the outside so the rubber boot would grab it and put it there temporarily to hold the oil in?

I've done it with my 4-tec N/A impeller tool in place... but I wouldn't put my head near the opening of the hull.

OKEY DOKEY. That pretty much covers it. LOL.

Thanks guys. Just trying to shave a few days off my tuneup by getting the ECU mapped and engine running while I am waiting to borrow an alignment tool.

In the Army we had parachute cord and 100mph tape....they said you could build or fix anything with just those two items.
