Thread: Swamped Motor

    Swamped Motor

I recently discovered the engine compartment in my 1989 Yamaha jet ski was full of water. The seat was opened and rain water filled it. I drained the water and pulled the spark plugs out. Turned the motor over and whiteish colored two stroke oil came out of spark plug holes. I kept turning the motor over and it keeps pumping out. Is there a drain plug to drain this from the motor? Does this mean there is a lot of oil and water still in the motor? I dont know what the proper mixture of oil and water looks like but it looks like its just too much and too thick. It has a separate resevoir for the 2 stroke oil. The motor ran great the previous year.

    Need more info

I need more info as to why you think the motor is trashed. I've read other threads about other owners having this problem before and they were able to drain the motor completely and get it running. The motor wasnt running when it was swamped. I cant see where there would be structual damage. It seems like it was flooded with water and oil

He could have had some rain storms like us down here in texas. 6 inches in 2 days.
You are correct though, if the water has been in there any more than 24 hours, he may be able to get it running, but I would think the damage is done and it will not last too long.

Amount Of time it was swamped

I'm thinking it was three to four weeks. We had a lot of rain over several weeks this past summer and I'm thinking it was probably during this time. There's no rust on the motor and the fluid coming out seems to be clean. It seems like its just a lot of 2 stroke oil coming out of the spark plug holes but lighter in color.

Your crank, bearings, and maybe rings have been sitting in water for days. As soon as you get the water out, the rust will start.
You can fatten up your oil mixture and get some use out of it, MAYBE, but I doubt it will last very long.

i know when the water is in a 1200 theres usually a 24 hour period to get it going.... i would continue to shoot the water out the plug holes till no more comes out, put a teaspoon of 2-stroke in each plug hole then try to get her running... if you get it running... get it on the water and run the piss out of it... i wouldnt wait any longer
