    is the GPR Dead ?

Well with the launch of the FZR andthe SHO , it seems 2strokes and GPR's are dead.

From the trend, its seems like most of the GPR guys are going to become FZR guys.

    Whats your verdict ?

    The reality of it is....

I don't FZ R money. I picked up my 03 GPR for 3500.00. Thats a far cry from 12,500. But that's just me.

I think "Old School" two smokes will stay alive for some time. Ultimately however they will die My next ski will be a four stroke I reckon...

Yamaha had the perfect opportunity to just lenghen the GPR hull a little, and drop in the SHO motor, and they blew it. The FZR is a total waste. Why would you buy something that is only about 19lbs lighter than the SHO, rides on basically the same hull(they're the same lengh), and never be able to seat more than 2 people?? Plus, they're going to sell for more than a SHO, and probably won't be any faster.
IMHO I'd buy an 08 SHO and call it good. I'm extremely disappointed in Yamaha, and I think when you guys see the FZR close up, next to a SHO, and really look at it, you'll be disappointed too.

I might buy an FZR down the road but not to replace the GPR. You know that saying there is not replacement for displacement?

Well there is no replacement for a good hull design either.

I have debated this a little myself. If I were to get another ski it would be an rxp. But the GPR is staying put. If anything it will become a conversion ski.

I dont know who on earth would buy the FZ R over the FZ S. They are basically the same exact thing, except the FZ S has a third seat and can tow. Who would op for the 2 seater just to limit themselves. The whole point of a 2 seater is to be smaller and nimble. And what exactly is the difference between the FZ S and the SHO? Just a slightly different hull (FZ S is a little less stable).

Also, how is this going to work having a less stable hull (rolls over easier) with a 4 stroke engine? I'm assuming more engines will die from water intake.

The GPR 2 stroke motor i think will be hot for a couple more years anyway. The conversion ski's(thanks Hydrotoys) is the newest, hottest thing to date. The GPR hull will remain popular for years to come imo.Dont give up on 2 strokes yet.We are NOT done yanking performance out of them yet.
