    GTX LTD wear ring

This past weekend I done a fried a favor and replaced his wear ring. Well now it's worse than it was and I'm wondering if he got the wrong ring. He has an 03 GTX LTD SC (no IC). Does anyone know for sure if the 03 LTD wear ring is different from an 04? I think he may have ordered a ring for an 04 and the parts manual does show different numbers but in one place it indicated that the 03 part number was changed to the same number as the 04. Anyone know for sure? If not how would I find out? Also it is a plastic pump. Should I use the set screws with the new wear ring or leave them out? I did leave them out but since I have to tear it down again anyway I could put them in at that time. Thanks.

All the '03 GTX LTD wear rings with the 185-hp engines are 155-mm inside diameter and the '04 and later GTX LTD skis with the 215-hp engines have a 159-mm inside diameter. The outside diameter is the same. Check the gap between the impeller and wear ring. It should me no more than .014". Hopefully much less. Yes use the 4 screws, but pre-drill the holes first, but don't go through the wear ring. If you screw up and need to redrill the screws, just rotate the wear ring and start again... Ron

With all the research that I've done it seems that we put the correct wear ring in the ski. I can tell by looking that it has way too much clearance. I can't figure out why? The impeller looked fine. Do the impellers actually wear out? This ski has only 50 hrs on it. The parts manual says it takes a 267000021 wear ring which was replaced by the 267000104 wear ring which is what I put in it. The only thing I can think of is the box had been previously opened and the wrong wear ring put in the box or that the impeller is worn. I guess the next step is to mic the old wear ring compared to the new one. Thanks.

I just fought this battle..267000104 is 04-05 GTX 185 HP wear ring, limited is 267000105.

I found out the newer rings are much harder to get in but the clearance stays the same.
Yes, props do wear but with a OEM wear ring it shouldn't be as much as a SS wear ring.

The only thing I can think of is if the wear ring was mis-boxed. I guess my next step is to tear it down again and mic it against the old one. Thanks.

darrel... you are correct in assuming you need the 104 wear ring.

Basically (and I am only referring to SC skis to simplify things), the 104's are for 185 hp SC models, and the 105's are for 215 hp SCIC models. You may in fact have received the wrong wear ring in the wrong box... others will admit to experiencing the same dilemma.

Here are a couple of pics showing the difference in thickness of a 104 and a 105... hope this helps:

I tore this pump down again today and it does have the correct wear ring in it. We have determined that the pump housing is egg shaped. Is this a common thing? Is there a metal one to replace it with or should we just get another plastic one? Thanks for all the replies.

My plastic pump was replaced with a metal pump under warranty. It's been fine ever since. It would be a mistake to put in another plastic pump... Ron
