Parts needed to break 70MPH.
Im new to the site and actually new to Jet skis. I love the sport its alot of fun. My freind told me to come to the lake and go jet sking with him. The next week I purchased my 2001 GP1200R. It has a Riva S3 Stinger kit and K&N filters. The ski will hit 65 mph per the stock speedo as is. Im wanting to break 70MPH. What do you guys think I need. Oh and I think the ski has a aftermarket impeller. Is there any good way to check. Any numbers or anything. I know if you look at it its really shiney and I was thinking the stock impeller was dull looking. Well this is the parts im thinking about getting. R&D Ride plate, R&D 800 intake grate, Pro-tec heads, to bump the compression, Island Racing Carb Jet kit and if needed another impeller.
Do you think that would push me to or past 70 MPH?

Best money is a modded rideplate... brings 5 mph over a stock plate....
get some waveeater clips asap... need a intake grate and pump plug kit.. then carbs and milled head...
that riva stinger 3 is costing you a mph also....

I've serious been thinking about getting a 2008 GP1300R. Im gueesing its easier to get up to speed. I haven't been beat at my local lake but then again there's a guy that has a Kawaski Ultra 250X that I haven't raced. Im sure it will definatly get out of the hole faster but the top end may not be much off. Then my other buddy wants to buy the 255hp seadoo so theres definalty going to be some fast ski's. What do you guys think. Mod the 01 GP1200 or buy a new 08 GP1300R and mod that.

personally i would not buy a new gpr but thats me and im cheap
Port it and make it a 1300 with the right mods it will be running 75-78 depending on the tuning
Alot cheaper than buying new

Your 2001 has carbs vs the EFI on the 2008. The people with the EFI skis that get serious about big speed yank the EFI and get carbs anyway.
Lose the Stinger if you want to go fast. Find a stock exhaust and put a D plate on it, do the Jetworks mod while you are at it.
Pull the impeller to see if you have a stock one. Go from there.
For the price difference between the 2001 and the 2008, you can turn your 2001 into a monster, trust me.
