    black rubber on around waterbox

i have been reading a few threads here and they are great, i have an 04 rxp rec ski and 07 rxp race ski, i was wondering...
somewhere here i have read that the black rubber around the waterbox can add a significant weight to the ski when wet... can this be taken off without affecting anything else (heat) or did i not read correctly?

    any help would be great.

the amount of weight is small. maybe 2-4 pounds. not really worth it IMO.

If you are worried about exhaust weight, then you need the Blackmagic headers. No water box, No resonator. Just tubing & water jacket. If you need to save some$$$ and want a "REALATIVLY" quieter set up then the Gibson helps save weight too.

i havnt done anything to it yet, as im waying up the pros and cons (i know its only a tiny little thing but im restricited to mods in 'stock class' racing...any little edge diff over someone else is always good) i have thought of removing it and sending it to someone who can put that heat coating stuff on the box. just an idea (looks pretty trick in the chromeish finish too)

there will be ALOT of extra heat in there.
you will notice absolutly NO gains from doing this. IMO

anyway if you decide to get rid of the rubber you will still need to put a small peice under your waterbox to keep it from rubbing till it opens up

I had my first xp waterbox rub right thru and start leaking into the hull becouse it was slightly wearing from vibration every time i rode.
