    Boggs in the Water

    '95 SP (587 engine)

    New entire Fuel System
    (yes, the fuel lines are on the single Carb. correctly

    Rebuilt Carb. (pop-off 32psi) LS= 1 1/2 out

    Compression 135psi/both

    Good Spark, even when bogging occurs

    At first, it runs fine in the water, then after 5 minutes it only idles. If you grab a handful of throttle, it boggs out.

    Fuel cap on or off / dosn't matter.

    You can feather the throttle to bring it too life, but nothing over a fast idle. Runs fine on the trailer.

    Regulator / Rectifier module had been replaced.
    Good Magneto output for charging voltages as well as trigger voltage.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    STATIC OHM READINGS with CABLE CONNECTED ONLY TO MAGNETO:
    BLK-YLW=OPEN
    BLK-BLK/RED=CLOSED O~58.0 OHMS
    BLK-YLW/YLW=.01~1.20 OHMS
    BLK-RD/YLW=OPEN
    STATIC OHM READINGS with CABLE CONNECTED TO BOTH SIDES:
    BLK-YLW=OPEN
    BLK-BLK/RED=CLOSED O~57.5 OHMS
    BLK-YLW/YLW=.01~1.20 OHMS
    BLK-RD/YLW=OPEN
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    RUNNING WITH CABLE CONNECTED TO BOTH SIDES:
    BLACK/YELLOW~YELLOW=1.0 OHMS
    BLACK/YELLOW~YELLOW=25+VAC RUNNING / VARIABLE with RPM
    BLACK~GROUND=0 OHMS
    RED~BLACK=62 OHMS and 32VAC / VARIABLE with RPM
    BLACK~YELLOW=OPEN
    YELLOW~GROUND=OPEN
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    What else to check ? Any ideas ?

    exhaust leak

    I bet the farm you have an exhaust leak...take the seat off and ride it for a while also check the fuel shut off valve. First things first this is typical exhaust leak symptoms as I have been down this road

    more

    the reason it runs fine on the trailer is out of the water no backpressure causing the exhaust leak like in the water...

    It was run in the water and on the trailer w/o the seat on.
    Still has the bogg problem.

    How big is that farm ?

    wait one minute

    mine was the same way....check very closely for any carbon build up where the manifold meets the engine. Mine was literally going straight into the intake so taking the seat off didnt really help. What happens if you turn the fuel off while trying to plane out. This will lean things out and if it is fuel related this could help...what I am insuiating is a leaking needle...

    That is a definate possibility but the plugs don't look (or smell) wet w/ fuel.

    Would using BR8's instead of the BR7's cause a bogg ?

    Is it hard to start in the water ???

  8. #8
    Well, I started it (warmed it up) before it was in the water so I can try a "cold water start" when I get home from Nashville this afternoon.

    I think I need to recheck the "new" Reg.//Rect. module output again.

    Voltage reg will not cause a running problem on a 580 because it is a magneto ignition.

    I am thinking excess RV clearance....

    Symptoms....

    Hard to start in water once hot,will start once exhaust is out of water.

    Will not hold a good idle in idle just starts dropping till it kills itself.

    David, I fixed the issue I Pm'd you about. It was a leak at the base of the carb due to someone, me, not placing the gasket back on straight. Although I know how much of a perfectionist you are I doubt that that is the issue but my 717 mimiced the same issue you are having.
