Thread: Stepping motor

Several times today my engine light came on - 1st time code 66 - stepping motor stuck closed. Next time code 54 - stepping motor malfunction. The 2nd time it did it the boat would not idle below 2500 for about 20 seconds. Finally idled normally. I know the stepping motor is not replaceable by itself, it's part of the throttle body assembly. I don't know where to go with this one. I did a search and very few have had this problem

Well I just got mine back from the dealership. It was covered under warranty (Y.E.S. Warranty). But they had to replace the TB which was a $1200 part. If you dont have a warranty, personally I would go try and clean off any corrosion that might be on there, if you ride in salt water that is.

Check with Ross or WFO; I would think they each have an extra set or 2 laying around.

Yeah , I've got an EFI controller
Rode all day today and didn't pick up any codes.
Looks like an intermittent problem

sometimes when the throttle cable is not adjusted properly it will pull those codes...

Next ride out and this time it picked up code for stepping motor again.
The couple of times it picked up a code, it did it immediately after you let off the throttle from full speed to idle speed. Motor will continue at about 3000r's for like 15 seconds, before it returns to idle. Funny part is the throttle cable feels like it's loose and not returning to idle position, like the stepping motor is not closing and therefore backing the cable up to where it feels loose.
I'm getting a stepping motor from N8R. Thanks Nate
I'll install it when I do the throttle cable recall and clean my injectors.
