Lack of thrust in the hole

    Hey all

Took the Ski's out yesterday after replacing the intake grate with one I bought off Ebay (think its the wrong one)on the kawi and thought I had it fixed, but no dice. If I try to take the hole shot, the engine just spins, no thrust. If i slowly gain speed, its ok, but cannot get into the throttle until I am going about 20MPH. Rear end feels loose, and it runs a lot hotter than normal.

Will the wrong grate casue those symtoms??

    My thoughts:

    No hookup
    Pulling air through pump
lack of thrust mean less water to the engine

    Am I right

    Thanks

    Sean

Have you done anything that could allow an air leak between the jet pump intake system and the hull?
Ride plate, pump shoe, or pump base seals disturbed?

Even a small air leak can ventilate the pump, so it is sucking air instead of water. Pump intake must be 100% sealed forward of the pump impeller, so air cannot get into the water stream.

My guess as well. I've seen guys shim the pump assembly at the hull because they couldn't get the engine to align...the result is of course improper thrust and overheat with all that air it ingests.
