    Hull Repair--smc hull

Hey all, When I bought my 750, it had a soft spot on the hull and I filled it with Polyester resin and fiberglass fiber putty (Ie Bondo) It failed. Did some research and have decided to redo correctly.

The attached are before, and after inside and out. Started with:
    grinding out the hole
then sanding the whole area with #60 sand paper
cleaned the whole are with acetone and paper towels
    let rest for 1 hr
used blue painters tape to tape the outside of the hole
west system 105 +Hardener mixed 5 to 1 and silica filler
filled the hole in the hull that i had ground out
    let become tacky
3 sheets of fiber glass laid front to back with 1 " overlap
    added layer of resin
added 3 sheets of fiber glass perpendicular to first
    added layer of resin
added 3 more sheets of fiber glass front to back with overlap
    added another layer of resin
waited 60 minutes to tack up
    outside:
removed the blue tape to expose tacky resin
    sanded again
    added thin wetting of resin
3 strips of fiber glass tape, front to back with 1" overlap
    resin
    3 strip l/r
    resin
    2 strips of fiber glass
    resin overtop to fair out.

still need to sand and probably add one more layer of resin to even the finish out the outer hull, then paint.

I know its too late if not, but did I do enough????

    What did I do wrong?

    Thanks

    Sean

I was not sure, but it was thin strands with white powdery material. Not layers of hand laid glass like I am used too. I guessed it was SMC

92 Kawi 750SS I think had all SMC hulls.

I know I posted this in Polaris site, but I do a lot more here and get quicker results

    If it's a 94 SL750 it's SMC top and bottom if it's a 94 SLT it's Polyester/glass/foam composite ,Hull and polyester /glass composite top deck

    hey lugs,

wrong 750 I respect you guys so much (insert brown nose comment here) that I posted this here instead of the Kawi site. We are more responsive over here

especially on the older skis. seems the kawi site only cares about the new 150 / 250 series

your kawi IS an SMC hull.

west systems epoxy works excellent for this.
